CREATE ANIMATION WITH: POWTOON

Hello Everyone,

       This week I want to mention you about the application: POWTOON

        Powtoon is one of the most frequently used tools recently. Powtoon is a tool that allows you to create an animation using speech bubbles, shapes, images, characters, and more. It is an application with both paid and free sections, but I think the free section is quite enough. I had a lot of fun while using it and it is an extremely easy tool to use.

        Like other programs, it's a good way to explain our lessons differently. A small detail, you can look cool if you use this program in presentations as a student 😊 😊

How to use Powtoon?

• Firstly, you need to open an account
• Then, you should select the sections you are interested in. You can already find a lot of ready-made templates, you can make edits on it, you can choose your characters.
• A tool that can be used in many fields such as advertising, promotion, not just education.

         I've prepared a video about Powtoon. Starting a class with this video can be different and interesting for students.

         Like any other application, how we use it is up to the imagination of the teachers. Using our technology efficiently is very important both for us and for our learning. LOOK AT MY BOARD!!

           I've talked about a lot of applications so far. I wrote about how to make them more useful and effective in language classes. The name of our application is PADLET

           As I mentioned before, these applications are not specifically designed for language teaching. Practices that may be useful in language learning through the use of teachers. Applications that may be useful in language learning by teachers' use. In this way, children will learn willingly not forced.

           Today I'm going to tell you about the Padlet. Its main purpose is not language learning, of course. You can use this application every area in your lives. It is an application that I strongly recommend especially for the collaboration environment. This time, the producers are not teachers, producers are students.

           Briefly, think of your boards in your classes, we can hang whatever we want to that boards, right? Consider the same thing but in a virtual environment. Padlet, which is also a product of web 2, will make language learning fun and creative with the children. The Padlet has all kinds of images, schema types etc., but you can also add something. It is a great application that can be applied in every lesson. Nowadays, almost, every home has internet connection. So why not we use it with the kids. Children can enter the boards you created with the board code, they can make edits, or do it in the classroom at the same time. In my opinion, middle school, high school students are more appropriate, but of course for primary school students can be more useful if used with pictures.

          I started by choosing the subject of animals because I usually teach primary school students. I divided the animals according to their habitats. Students can write, add photograph according to animals’ habitats.

           For high school students, they can write the characteristics of the countries on the world  map. In short, you can do what you want. It is an application I recommend. I am very excited to prepare more boards and use them with my students as soon as possible.

How can we us Padlet?

• It is very simple to use, firstly, you should sign up
• Then you should create a board, its subject is up to you. 😊
• You should share this board’s code with your students, in that way they can add something to boards

ARE YOU READY TO BE A WRITER?

HELLO EVEYONE,

          Do you like to read and write? Do you help someone who is interested with this? This week, I'll write about something for you: STORYBIRD

         Storybird is a free book creation site. Its native language is English, but it is very easy to use and is a useful educational tool especially for language teachers such as Turkish, English and German. Students can read books which they created; write their own books, stories and poems. Many aspects of the application are free.

          According to me, reading books is very important for language learning. In this way, students can improve their vocabulary skills and improve their reading skills in a different language. It is a very easy to use this application. One of the best things is that you can use it in any age group. It can be diversified with simple sentences for elementary school students and more difficult sentences for secondary school students.

What we can do with this app?

• We can give homework as a group or individually.
• Comments from students can encourage them. Students who are talented in writing can advance on this subject.
• Students can create their own libraries.

How can we use it?

• You must first become a member. There are three types of membership: student, teacher and classic
• As a teacher, you can become a member and open a class and add your students to the class you have opened. In addition, parents can follow up with their children from the parent section.
• Then, you can create your own stories with create section, or you can read somebody' stories with read section.
•  There are many ready-made templates to create a story. you can choose any of these templates and start writing your story, poem or comic book.

COMICS WITH PIXTON

          Hello to everyone from the first post of the year. 

🎄🎅🎆First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR.🎆🎅🎄

This year, I'll mention you one of my favorite apps: PIXTON

         Pixton, in particular, is an app that elementary and middle school students can love. The easiest way to prepare cartoons for your students. Cartoons and comics attract to many children' attention. So why not bring cartoons to our classes?

       With Pixton you can create characters, create backgrounds where you can write the story of your characters, and create a comic book with different screen designs. You can contact other teachers and examine their cartoons.

Let's see what we can do together with this application.

• You can design comics.
• Describe a concept or idea in a concise way
• You can tell a story with words and pictures
• You can combine characters with emotions
• You can draw a film script

        Pixton is a program that can be edited in many ways. You can change the emotions and movements of the characters. Of course, the subject is still up to the imagination of teachers. Teachers can also use this program with their students. With Pixton, you can open a class and add students to that class. You can decide on speech bubbles and articles as you like. 

        This is my really favorite app. Especially my primary school students loved this practice. They all joined the class more enthusiastically than before. It is a very useful program for establishing sentences and communicating especially in a foreign language. I really recommend it.

          Hello everyone again. I mentioned about augmented reality to you last week. This week, I'm going to write about something that can make you dizzy. VIRTUAL REALITY


         As I mentioned before, technology is an incredible place in our lives. It's hard to predict even after five years. Now, I'm going to write about is a technology maybe you've heard or seen before. You may have seen  or tried virtual reality in space, roller coaster or car racing, especially in entertainment centers. Maybe you walked in the moon or jumped off the plane for five minutes. So how can we use this technology for education?

  

         In this era, coursebooks are so ordinary or they may be boring for students. Every student wants different and attractive things for learning. We as teachers can create efficient ways for teaching. One of them is Virtual Reality. Actually, Virtual Reality is not something that actually emerged in the last days of our lives. It was something that was found about 70 years ago, and it has gone through many stages until it is now.

         How do we integrate one of the greatest technologies in our lives into language education? There are no definite practices on this topic. It is up to the teacher's creativity. How can we use these glasses to help students learn languages?

          For example, why not take our students for a ride in London or New York. Then they can write very beautiful articles that tell you where they saw them.They can use past tense also they can develope their writing skills thanks to this short trip. This may seem like a very expensive thing, but it's not. With virtual reality cardboard box, you can reduce the cost, and all you have to do is connect to the same application an wireless. Changing the course and staying fun depends on the creativity of the teachers we have.

BLACKBOARD?

        

        There are lots of systems, applications etc. for changing education styles.  One of them is; BLACKBOARD.

So, what kind of a system is this?

       

   Briefly, Blackboard is an instructional management system that allows educators to submit course materials electronically, communicate with students, and create course activities in an electronic environment. It is a system other than traditional teaching methods. Both teachers and students can use it in a synchronous or asynchronous environment but using it synchronous is more useful to provide a collaborative environment.

• ·         In an asynchronous environment, interactions take place for longer periods of time, such as discussions. Students can find time to communicate more reflectively.
• ·         In face-to-face classes, teachers can devote the first minutes of the lesson to remind their students of upcoming events.
• ·         In your face-to-face class, teachers can ask questions to measure how much their students understand the course material.
• ·         Teachers can set expiration dates, create grading rules, and create easy-to-find instructions. the information should be descriptive.
• ·         Personal communication can be established with students.
• ·         This application is especially used as a complement to normal courses.
• ·         The application contains three types of courses.     

                   1- FULL ONLINE

• ·         Participants do not meet face to face in the classroom, they interact completely online.
• ·         Teachers can communicate and interact with students through online tools.
• ·         Students can interact, communicate and collaborate online.
• ·         Teachers can evaluate your homework online.

                                      2-   HYBRID

• ·         Although the participants can participate in the planned class or laboratory studies, the duration of these studies is short.
• ·         Teachers can design face-to-face and online events that challenge, complement and support other participants.
• ·         Teachers can combine the best features of the traditional classroom environment and the online course. students can learn with unrestricted education.

                3-  WEB SUPPORTED

• ·         Participants meet in the classroom for the scheduled hours of the course, but you will also do some teaching activities online.

 In my country , most of  universities use this application, also in other universities around the world.

LEARNING WITH AUGMENTED REALITY

         

          Do you imagine how much today's technology can improve? Like how we make our lives easier, or how we do a few things at the same time. We can actually do many of them in this era, but the speed of the technology is really incredible. I want to talk about a technology that makes our lives easier in many respects, but especially in terms of education. AUGMENTED REALITY

          Have you ever heard of it before? I met this concept this year. It is actually a technology used in many sectors. If you've thought before, if I were to painted my house red how would it be or how would an armchair on  in that corner, it's a technology that turns your mind into real life. It is a technology used in many architectures, furniture companies, medicine, education even if in games.  Here are some examples from other sectors;

 

 

       I'll mentioned about it today what augmented reality means in terms of education. Let's look at these pictures first.

 

          Nowadays almost everyone has smart phones and it is almost impossible not to find the internet connection somewhere. Learning languages from applications has increased in recent years. We'll look at whether is it beneficial or not, but let's focus on the topic right now.

         The augmented reality in education is truly a revolution. A teacher standing right next to you on your phone screen can teach you French, Italian etc. and he/she can visualize it to make it permanent, or when you look at a video of a topic you're looking at, you can see animals, objects and food in 3D. This can happen wherever you are. There are many applications available, but most are chargeable or need charge a few levels later. Nowadays, the software of these programs is more expensive and labor-intensive than a certain fee, but maybe a few years from now, it can reach everyone or more creative applications, so our hope is that. It is currently being used in many countries and in many countries, it is in the project.

     

        As I mentioned before, there are a few applications, one of them is ARISE. This app is an example of an augmented reality. Let's see how we can link a video;

           On the other hand, is it possible to learn languages only with these technologies? It is a controversial subject, of course. However, it may not be very efficient to learn language only using such kind of technologies. It can be a tool for teachers to use in classes, and it provides great benefits for students. But, for example, it helps in learning words, yes, but how much useful for students? Such technologies should be helpful tools for teachers. When students do not use the words which they have learned in daily life or use them in a paragraph, questions arise about how they can understand the language. In my opinion, language learning should not be completely with these technologies, but it should definitely be used in the field of education, whether language learning.
