SOCRATIVE

          As a teacher, don't you want to give your students immediate feedback. That would be great for you and for them, wouldn't it? In the age of technology, this is possible now with SOCRATIVE which is the product of web 2.

           Socrative is a program which you can create tests and give feedbacks to students immediately. Students can solve these tests online. Socrative is very useful program to consolidate. Students can enter the system with their own names or names they have created, and they can begin to solve the tests that their teachers have prepared. As students perform tasks, they move on a scoreboard. this leads to a small and entertaining competition among students. This is a highly effective program that helps children participate in the class. In this small competitive environment, Socrative is one of the important educational tools that teaches with fun.

           Especially feedback is a very important element for both students and teachers. unfortunately, teachers may not have the chance to give feedback to every student at any moment. Thanks to Socrative, this can be eliminated. Teachers can reach each student and they can see their progress.

How can we use Socrative?

For teachers

• ·         You should sign up (with teacher login)
• ·         Then, we can create exams. These exams can be of any type, such as true-false, multiple choice, open-ended, etc. You can name your exams.
• ·         After preparing you exam, click on the “SAVE & EXIT” in the upper right corner to register your exam.
• ·         You can share your exam’s codes with your colleagues, they can also benefit from your exams.

For students

• ·         They should sign up (with student login)
• ·         In the Student Login section, students will be asked to enter a room number.
• ·         Students enter the room code given by their teachers and wait for the teacher to start the exam.
• ·         Students enter their names and their teachers can instantly see what they are doing. The event ends when the teacher presses the finish tab.

Let's Play Flashcard : QUIZLET

           In our era, web2 makes education easier. Today I will mention about a learning tool again. This is QUIZLET. Quizlet is one of the most successful learning tools of web2.

          I learned Quizlet from one of my teachers. Since then I continue to use fondly. So, what is this learning tool for?

          Quizlet is a kind of online flashcard application. It can use both learning and teaching. You can create your own sets, or you can use somebody’s sets. With games and cards in program, you can learn and remember vocabularies’ meaning easily.  Quizlet is a more advanced version of the game, where we used to write the meaning of words on cards and throw them into a box. This is more visual, and we can also learn how to pronounce words. There are different kinds of games to remember meaning of words.

         Your teachers can create a classroom from there and students can join. Then teachers create sets for students. students can study whenever they want from there. This application shows how many percent we have learned and completed. It specifically asks again the words we did wrong. You can also use the visual on the words to help students learn. A learning tool that has been thought of in every aspect.

How can we use Quizlet?

           You should sign up, but you can use without an account, but you can only use other people’s sets, or you can create. It is free except some options.

HOW CAN YOU TEACH AS QUEEN ELIZABETH OR A CAT ?

            VOKI  

         Every week we discover a program or an application to differentiate education.  How about talking about VOKI which is a great product of web2 today?

        Voki is one of my favorite programs. Firstly, I mentioned about what is Voki? This is an application that allows you to create characters online and allow them to speak text you type. Not just for English, you can write and voice in any language with woman or mam’s voice. You can create your character. You can be anything whatever you want such as cat, soldier, doctor, elephant even Queen Elizabeth or Barack Obama. That's the fun part, isn't it?

           The most useful part, for students, it is difficult to speak English or any other language. One of the most problem about learning English in my country is speaking English. With this program, you can ask your students to create and speak their own characters. In this way, they will have fun and easily handle the pressure of speech. This application is especially suitable for primary and kindergarten students. You can attract their attention, and you can teach simple English words in fun ways. For example, you can be a cat and you can give information about cats or you can be a doctor and you can inform about doctors. There is no limit, all up to your creativity.

         How can we use Voki?

      1)   You should sign up.

     2)   After signing up you can create your character with some limitations. It is free  program but some of character may be paid.

     3)      Then you can voice your chosen character.

New Communication System: EDMODO

         Every week or sometimes every day, I’m trying to introduce some useful systems or apps for effective teaching and learning. This time I want to introduce; EDMODO.

         Edmodo is a system that I used. This is a facilitating and useful network especially for teachers. So, what is EDMODO and how can we use?

         Edmodo is a classroom management tool and social network specially designed for teacher-student-parent. Teacher can create quizzes, share lesson documents and more. It was founded by Nic Borg, Crystal Hutter, Jeff O'Hara in 2008. It is free but you should sign up. You can access with your computer or smart devices and it is suitable for everyone who can use technological devices.

What can we do with EDMODO?

         Activities can be organized with small groups. File and folder sharing can be done. Announcements can be made to the students. Parents can follow their students if they wish. Teacher can make quizzes from here. Teachers can grade to the students who submit their homework. Grade point average of the assignments can be seen. Surveys can be made to students. By creating small groups, activities and tasks can be assigned to a specific group of students in a classroom.

How can we use EDMODO?

•     You have to sign up firstly.
•     Then teachers should create their own classes and add their students. They can write about the    course content. Teacher can write about students’ homework, announcements or grade also, they can create quizzes, and they control their students.
•     Students can join other classes too.

         After you sign up and create a class, you can use your EDMODO. This system is really useful for teachers. They can control their ala students, they can give feedbacks. When I was in first class in university, my teacher used this system. It was beneficial for all students; we could get help from each other’s information and our teacher could control us very easily. For getting efficient feedbacks, this kind of systems can facilitate teachers' work.

Another Way To Learn With Fun : KAHOOT

                                               

             Hello everyone. I hope you are well. Today’s topic is very funny. We always think about how we can teach both different and fun. There is a solution about that: KAHOOT. Have you ever heard about Kahoot or have you ever used it?

             Kahoot is a question-answer platform for both teachers and students. It was invented by Johan Brand, Jamie Brooker and Morten Versvik. There are over 180 countries and about 20 million games are played per month. With Kahoot we are able to prepare trainings in 4 different categories: quiz, discussion, survey and jumble. It is free to sign up. As a teacher you can create quizzes and share codes with your students. They can join to game with smart phones.  For students it is a kind of competition. Because end of the quizzes, first, second and third ones are selected. This is also created competition between them. Kahoot can be suitable for each level of English but it is more suitable for secondary and high school. Also, I played when I was in prep school, it was really fun and permanent for English learning. This is also favorite of my students. I am working in an English course as a teacher. When my students who are especially high school students get bored or distracted, I suggest them to play Kahoot. Suddenly they are joining to class. They are really love this game.

So, it is really useful, beneficial and funny thing but how can we use.

As a teacher;

• ·         Firstly, you should sign up, you can do this with google account or your e mail.
• ·         You can complete filling with your username, etc. to the process of creating an account.
• ·         Then you can prepare quizzes about whatever you want, the other options can be paid but preparing quizzes totally free.
• ·         You can determine quizzes time according to that students can race according to time. Then there should be a game code your quizzes.

As a student;

• ·         Students can connect with quiz’s code.
• ·         Firstly, they should open Kahoot web site than you should enter the code they see on the board with their smart devices.
• ·         After they connect, they should create a username (it is also fun thing for them)
• ·         They can see question from smartboards, only they can see the options from their devices
•          End of the quizzes they can see their scores.

Kahoot is really one of my favorites. It is very useful for children to get feedback or to learn something with fun. I think try it without wasting any time.

What is MOODLE?

         We are live in technology era. In that way, we are using technology in every area of our lives especially in education. Recently, many alternatives for education emerged. Now, not only schools provide education, but also wherever we want it can be an educational area for us. An important example of this is MOODLE. Moodle is an acronym for “Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment”. So, what is MOODLE and how can we use?

         Moodle distance education system is used. 235 countries and is available in 82 languages.  If you want, you can choose all languages at the same time, you can choose one language. It has a big share in education sector. Moodle is free.  The most important feature is the availability by everyone especially for students and teachers. Most of students think very useful and accessible system.

         Moodle’s main goal is to provide a good helper tool for improving teaching, but also for everyone provides fast and easy information. Teachers are not only using this just for distance education but also, they are using in the classrooms. Also, it is a system that improves themselves day by day with feedback received from everyone.

          As it is clear from the first letter, there are many modules in this system. First one is homework module. Homework Module collecting and grading assignments and other activities given to students for teachers. Students can upload their homework; they can add something or delete something. Teacher can set deadline for homework; they can grade their students from this system.  Another module is chat module. The system allows participants to chat in real time, or on a specific topic of discussion. Participants can send audio files to each other. And also, there are database module, dictionary module, lesson module, quiz module, questionnaire module and wiki module. Briefly, a successful and very useful system in every sense. It is a facilitating and customizable system for both students and teachers.

One of the useful sites : PINTEREST

      Hello everyone! Have you heard something about Pinterest, or have you ever used? 

        Pinterest is one of my favorite sites. I use this site a lot. So, what does this site do? Pinterest is a visual social networking website. Pinterest was founded in 2010 in the United States by Paul Sciarra, Evan Sharp and Ben Silbermann. This site takes its name from the words Pin and interest. Users can share the images, videos they have uploaded, or the images or videos they have seen on a different user.  In other words, you can pin the panels that you create visuals that are suitable for your interests. You can find photographs about everything whatever you want such as, decoration, food, beauty, animals etc. For example, I use Pinterest for taking some decoration suggestions. But I love Pinterest because for us, I mean for teachers, it is very useful site. 

        I always use Pinterest for my students. In Pinterest, there are lots of teachers and they are sharing their folders and visuals about English. Also, I share some exams and visuals for kids. So, we can use for this site for education and for our benefit. I find it very useful to make such sites useful for education. Both teachers can share their work or get help from the ideas of other teachers and the social networking between teachers is strengthened. Education can become more beautiful with the idea of ​​many people, so I recommend using Pinterest in every sense of your life. How can you use Pinterest?

* First you need to make a short membership process.
